Welcome to the website of István Lukács

István Lukács (born 1990, Eger, Hungary) is a Hungarian composer.

He started to play the piano at his age of 14. After a few years of studying, he has had more interest in classical composition and film music. He studied music at Eszterházy Károly College and also spent 5 months in Alicante (Spain) at Conservatorio Superior de Música Oscar Esplá studying composition. During his studies he obtained a III. prize on the 30th National Conference of Arts and Science for Students in Sopron (Hungary).

In 2011 he wrote a soundtrack for a short movie of the Hungarian amateur film maker Zsolt Gyöngyösi. The movie called ‘Coffee Break’ was awarded the Special Prize of the IX. International Festival of Non-professional Film Makers in Tallin (Estonia).

The same year he attended a complementary course at Kodály Zoltán Secondary School of Music in order to develop his skills in classical composition. Next summer he received the I. prize of the composition competition of P:ART:itúra workshop for his ‘Waterfall Sonata’.

In 2012 he worked again together with Zsolt Gyöngyösi on his movie called ‘Mute’. The shortmovie, based on the novelle of Stephen King, was awarded the 2nd Prize of the X. International Festival of Non-professional Film Makers (Tallin, Estonia).

Currently he is studying composition at Lemmensinstituut in Leuven (Belgium).
